U.S. Transportation Secretary Duffy: “If the Government Shutdown Continues, Major Flight Disruptions Could Occur”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that if the federal government shutdown extends into next week, the nation could face serious disruptions in aviation operations.
In his statement, Duffy said:
“If the government shutdown continues, you will see delays and cancellations across many flights. We may even have to close some airspaces, because without our air traffic controllers, it’s impossible to manage the system safely.”
Due to the delayed approval of the federal budget, several government agencies in the U.S. are currently operating at limited capacity. This situation could lead to staff shortages in air traffic control services, posing risks to flight safety and scheduling efficiency.
Officials have also warned that if the shutdown persists, flight cancellations and delays could trigger a nationwide chain reaction across the aviation network.
